Irving SR-22 Insurance and Filing

An SR-22 is a certificate, not a policy. Your carrier files it with Texas DPS to prove you carry at least 30/60/25 liability. We write the policy, send the filing electronically, and handle the documentation questions that come up constantly in Irving.

Documents, and why this is the question we get most in Irving

More than half the SR-22 calls we take from Irving start with a version of the same question: can I do this without a Social Security number. The answer is yes.
We regularly write SR-22 policies for Irving clients using a matrícula consular or an ITIN, and in many cases we can work with a valid foreign driver license. The carriers that accept those documents are not the ones advertising on television, which is precisely why an independent agency matters here. We know which of our 56+ carriers will accept what, so you are not driving across the metroplex to be turned away. Bring what you have and call first. We will tell you over the phone exactly which documents the specific carrier needs, and if a document will not work we will say so before you make the trip rather than after. The process itself is the same for everyone. Bind a liability policy meeting or exceeding Texas 30/60/25, have the carrier transmit the SR-22 to DPS, and let the record update before attempting reinstatement or filing for an occupational license. Irving cases run through Dallas County, and the requirement normally lasts two years from the conviction or judgment date. We file electronically and confirm the transmission back to you. That confirmation is worth asking any agency for.

The Irving rating split, and the rideshare problem

Irving is really two rating environments in one city. South Irving in 75060 and 75061 carries older housing stock, denser traffic and a different claim history than Las Colinas and Valley Ranch in 75038 and 75039. Carriers price those areas differently, and a quote built on the wrong assumption about where you actually park at night will be wrong.
Layered on top is geography. SH-114, SH-183, Loop 12 and the DFW Airport approaches put an enormous volume of unfamiliar drivers through Irving every day, and carriers price that traffic density into the premium regardless of how you personally drive. Then there is the issue that catches Irving drivers harder than almost anywhere in DFW. A large number of people here drive for rideshare or delivery platforms, and a personal auto policy excludes commercial use. If you are on an SR-22 and you have a claim while logged into an app, the carrier can deny the claim and non-renew the policy. The non-renewal is the dangerous part, because a non-renewal mid-requirement is a lapse, and a lapse restarts your two years. The platform's own coverage typically carries a deductible in the 1,000 to 2,500 dollar range and does not cover you while you are waiting for a ride request. If you drive for any app, tell us. We will price the correct endorsement or a commercial policy so a claim cannot cost you your license on top of your car.

What it costs and how to keep it from getting worse

The filing fee is small. The premium reflects the violation, and a DWI or an uninsured at-fault accident does raise it. What we control is how much.
Standard carriers either surcharge a major violation aggressively or decline it. Non-standard carriers price it as routine. We shop more than 56 insurance carriers and markets, and for Irving drivers the difference between the best and worst quote on identical coverage with the identical filing routinely runs into the hundreds of dollars a year. Then we protect the filing. Your carrier must notify DPS if the policy lapses, and that notification is automatic. A lapse means a new suspension, new fees, and often a restart of the two-year clock. So the payment structure needs to be something you can carry for twenty-four straight months, not just an attractive first payment. If you no longer have a car, do not cancel. A non-owner SR-22 keeps the filing valid at a lower premium and covers you in borrowed and rented vehicles. Two coverages worth adding while we are here. Uninsured and underinsured motorist, because Dallas County has a high uninsured rate and UM/UIM is what pays when the other driver has nothing. And if you carry tools or equipment in a work vehicle, ask about that separately, because a personal auto policy will not cover them.

"I do deliveries at night and nobody had told me my policy would not cover me while the app was on. Rainbow caught it while setting up my SR-22 and fixed it. If I had wrecked working I would have lost the policy and my license all over again."

Irving SR-22 Filing FAQs

Can I get an Irving SR-22 with a matrícula consular or ITIN?

Yes. We write these regularly and can work with a valid foreign license in many cases. Not every carrier accepts every document, which is the advantage of shopping 56+ of them. Call 817-922-8031 first and we will confirm exactly what the carrier needs before you come in.

I drive for Uber and DoorDash. Does my SR-22 policy cover me?

Not while you are working. A personal auto policy excludes commercial use, so a claim logged into an app can be denied and can lead to non-renewal. Mid-requirement non-renewal counts as a lapse and can restart your two years. Tell us you drive and we will add the correct endorsement or write a commercial policy.

How long does the filing take?

Usually the same business day. Once the liability policy is bound and paid we transmit the SR-22 to Texas DPS electronically and confirm back to you that it went through.

Does the two years start when I buy the policy?

No, it normally runs from the conviction or judgment date. Delaying the purchase does not shorten the requirement, it just leaves you suspended longer.
