Dallas is priced by the block, not by the city

There is no such thing as a Dallas rate. A driver in 75208 in Oak Cliff and a driver in 75225 in Preston Hollow can be quoted hundreds of dollars apart on the same vehicle with the same record, because carriers rate theft frequency, claim severity and traffic density down to the zip code and sometimes the garaging address.
That is exactly why one company being cheapest for your coworker means very little for you. The company that wins in 75231 is frequently among the most expensive in 75211. Then there is the traffic itself. The Dallas grid puts I-35E, I-30, US-75 Central, LBJ 635, Woodall Rodgers and the Dallas North Tollway inside a single metro, with the Mixmaster and the High Five feeding into each other. Sudden-stop and lane-change collisions on those stretches make up a large share of the claims we see, and they are the kind of accident where liability limits get tested fast. We represent more than more than 56 insurance carriers and markets and we requote all of them for your address. It takes about three minutes on the phone and produces real numbers, not an online estimate that changes at checkout.

Uninsured motorist coverage matters more in Dallas

Texas as a state runs a high uninsured driver rate, and Dallas County runs above the state figure. That single fact should shape how you build a Dallas auto policy.
Here is what actually happens. Someone with no policy runs a light on Ross Avenue and totals your car and puts you in an emergency room. Their liability coverage does not exist. Your collision coverage repairs your car if you carry it, but your medical bills, your lost income and your deductible are your problem unless you bought uninsured motorist coverage. UM/UIM pays your injuries and your property damage when the at-fault driver cannot. It is inexpensive relative to what it covers, and in Dallas we recommend it on essentially every policy we write. Personal injury protection, which pays medical costs and some lost wages regardless of fault, is also worth carrying here — Texas carriers must offer it and you have to decline it in writing, which is how most people end up without it without realizing. On liability, the state minimum of 30/60/25 is not a serious limit in a city where a multi-vehicle pileup on Central Expressway is a routine Tuesday. We generally recommend 100/300/100.

Theft, tolls and city-specific coverage gaps

Vehicle theft and catalytic converter theft are meaningful risks in parts of Dallas, particularly where street and open-lot parking is the norm — Deep Ellum, parts of Uptown, the areas around Fair Park and the apartment corridors off Northwest Highway. Theft is covered by comprehensive, not liability and not collision. If you dropped comprehensive on a paid-off car parked on the street, you are self-insuring the whole vehicle.
Two more gaps we see constantly on Dallas policies: Rideshare and delivery. If you drive for Uber, Lyft, DoorDash or Instacart, your personal policy generally suspends coverage while the app is on, and the platform's coverage has high deductibles and gaps between rides. We add a rideshare endorsement or write a commercial policy depending on what you actually do. Rental and roadside. Both are cheap to add and both matter more in a city where a body shop can hold a car for weeks. If you commute across the metro daily, going without rental reimbursement is a false economy. We explain each of these before you buy rather than after you file.

"Nobody had ever explained uninsured motorist coverage to me before. I got hit by someone with no policy six months later and it paid for everything."

Dallas Car Insurance FAQs

Why do Dallas quotes vary so much between neighborhoods?

Carriers rate by zip code and often by garaging address, using local theft frequency, claim severity and traffic density. That means the cheapest company in 75231 can be one of the most expensive in 75211. Comparing several carriers for your exact address is the only way to find out which one wins for you.

Is uninsured motorist coverage worth it in Dallas?

In our view yes, more than almost anywhere else in the metro. Dallas County has an above-average share of drivers with no policy. UM/UIM is what pays your injuries and your vehicle damage when the at-fault driver has nothing, and it costs a small fraction of what it covers.

I drive for Uber and DoorDash in Dallas. Am I covered?

Usually not while you are working. Personal auto policies typically exclude commercial use, and platform coverage has high deductibles and gaps between trips. We add a rideshare endorsement or write commercial auto depending on how much and what kind of driving you do.

Do you have an office in Dallas?
