Why Arlington rates run high

Three things stack against an Arlington driver, and none of them are your fault.
Event traffic. I-30, I-20 and SH-360 all pass through the city, and on game days the Collins Street, Randol Mill and Division corridors fill with drivers who do not know the interchanges. Rear-end and lane-change claims spike around AT&T Stadium and Globe Life Field, and carriers price that into the 76011 and 76010 zip codes whether or not you ever go to a game. No city bus system. Arlington is the largest US city without a conventional transit network. That means nearly everyone drives to work, and higher annual mileage is a direct rating factor on every quote you will ever receive here. Hail. Arlington sits in the middle of what North Texas insurers call Hail Alley. Comprehensive claims cluster hard in 76013, 76016 and 76017 after every serious spring storm, and a bad season raises base rates for the entire area the following year. You cannot change any of that. What you can change is which carrier you are with. Because each company weighs traffic density, theft history and hail exposure differently, the spread between the cheapest and most expensive quote for the same Arlington driver regularly exceeds 800 dollars a year for identical coverage.

Why the Texas minimum is a bad idea on SH-360

Texas requires 30/60/25 liability: 30,000 dollars per injured person, 60,000 per accident, and 25,000 for damage to someone else's property. That property damage number is the one that gets Arlington drivers into trouble.
A late-model pickup on SH-360 costs more than 25,000 dollars to replace. If you total one while carrying state minimum, the carrier pays its 25,000 and the rest is a personal judgment against you. Texas allows wage garnishment on those judgments. Moving from 30/60/25 to 100/300/100 usually costs a few dollars a month, because the first dollars of liability coverage are the expensive ones and the higher limits are comparatively cheap. It is the single best value decision available on an Arlington auto policy. We also push hard on uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage here. Tarrant County has a high share of drivers with no policy at all, and UM/UIM is what pays your injuries and your vehicle when the at-fault driver has nothing. It typically adds a small amount to the premium and it is the coverage our Arlington clients end up using most often.

Comprehensive is not optional in Arlington

Comprehensive is the coverage that pays for hail, theft, vandalism, fire, flood and animal strikes. Liability does not touch any of that, and collision only applies when you hit something.
Every spring we take calls from Arlington drivers whose cars were dimpled front to back by a storm and who are carrying liability only. There is nothing to file. The repair, which on a modern hood and roof commonly runs into the thousands, comes entirely out of pocket. If your car is paid off and you dropped comprehensive to save money, we will tell you honestly whether that math still works given what the car is worth. Sometimes it does. In Arlington, more often it does not. Discounts that actually apply here: good student if you have a UTA student or an Arlington ISD teenager on the policy, defensive driving course credit, bundling with a home or renters policy, paying the term in full, and multi-vehicle. We run every discount you qualify for rather than the ones you remember to ask about.

"I was paying almost 200 a month on my truck and they got me to 120 with the same coverage. They explained the liability limits instead of just quoting me the cheapest thing."

Arlington Car Insurance FAQs

Why is car insurance more expensive in Arlington than in nearby cities?

Three local factors: heavy pass-through traffic on I-30, I-20 and SH-360 plus event congestion around the stadium district; the absence of a city transit system, which raises average miles driven; and Arlington sitting in the heart of North Texas hail territory. Carriers price all three by zip code.

Do you write policies for UTA students?

Yes, and it is worth calling specifically about. Full-time students with a solid GPA usually qualify for a good student discount, and a student who leaves a vehicle at home while living on campus can often be rated differently. Those two adjustments together can meaningfully change the premium.

Does my Arlington policy cover hail damage to my car?

Only if you carry comprehensive coverage. Hail is not covered by liability or by collision. If you have state minimum coverage only and a spring storm damages your vehicle, the repair is entirely your expense. We check this before finalizing any Arlington auto policy.

Can I get covered without a Social Security number?

Yes. Several carriers in our lineup accept a matrícula consular, passport, foreign driver license, or ITIN. We already know which ones do and what each charges, so you are not calling five agencies to find out. We also have a full Spanish page for Arlington.
